The Black Diamond Engagement Ring

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

There are many kinds of diamonds to choose for your loved one, especially for an engagement ring. You can actually choose different designs, shapes, sizes and colors.

Colorless diamonds are popular choices for engagement rings. A man can choose to give his bride-to-be a pink or yellow diamond engagement ring; which is preferred by a lot of women. So giving a black diamond engagement ring is not really a popular choice.

Unlike traditional colors of diamond engagement rings, a black diamond engagement ring is "unique if not an eccentric kind of ring to choose for a loved one.

There a probably a few women who would have a taste or penchant for this very odd color of engagement ring because often the color of black is associated with evil, darkness or even witchcraft. So it would be surprising if not scary to be given a ring especially a black diamond engagement ring.

But unknown to people, black diamonds are popular stone choices for male jewelries especially for Europeans. Usually black diamonds are included in wedding rings and bracelets. They are often combined with more lustrous or more colorful diamonds and other precious stones to enhance the brilliance of the colored gems or highlight the black diamond itself.

Men who offer to give a black diamond engagement ring also choose rings that are set in platinum or titanium to enhance the color of the black diamond or combine it with stones the color of their choice and have the design custom made to make it extra special.

The appearance of black diamonds may be in hues of green, gray or midnight black. The color can range from being dense or translucent in hue.

When buying a black diamond engagement ring, you need to go to an accredited jeweler because some people trick sellers by adding color to fancy stones and make it appear a true black diamond. You can ask for papers proving that you are getting the real deal.

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

People propose marriage in many unique ways. It can be done at a candlelit dinner, a picnic on the beach, a sporting event or any other way you can think of. Each proposal is different, but, almost always, there's a diamond ring involved.

Understanding diamond rings and their symbolism and meanings is important, before you get one, though. After all, without understanding where diamond rings come from, how they are made and what they symbolize, you can't fully appreciate them.

First of all, let's examine the round shape of the band itself. The circular shape is said to be a symbol of a love that is unending. Some see it as a love with no beginning and no end, a constant state. By accepting an engagement ring, the wearer accepts the unending cycle of love that is being offered with it.

Since they are so bright, strong and clear, diamond rings last a long time. As a result, they are a very popular gift. In fact, as one of the strongest, most beautiful things on earth, they are given out every day in countries all over the world.

Strength, love and trust are qualities of a great marriage. Diamonds are so strong and beautiful that they are viewed as symbols of those qualities. In fact, a lot of people feel that a strong bond that cannot be broken is represented by a diamond.

There are many different diamond rings to choose from. They can be made unique, based on what sort of diamond is used. Also, different metals can be used for the band. So, no two are exactly alike.

Gold is, of course, the traditional choice for an engagement ring. It is bright, shiny and expensive. It seems to symbolize that the person giving the ring is willing to invest the time and money for a quality ring and, therefore, they will do the same for a quality relationship.

If you prefer a non-traditional approach, though, don't worry. Gold isn't the only option. Some other, less common, options include silver, platinum or titanium. A lot depends on what you think the person you are giving the ring to will like. If your loved one isn't very traditional, you might need a creative approach.

Of course, the band is the lesser of the two things to think about. The diamond is the main issue. When it comes to diamonds, you need to think about the size, which is measured in carats, the color, the cut and the clarity. In the diamond world, those are known as the four C's.

Selecting a diamond ring can be a difficult process. But, if you use this guide, the process will be a bit easier for you. With a little time and effort, you're sure to find the perfect ring for that perfect person in your life.

The History of Marquise Diamond Engagement Ring

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Did you know that the marquise design of diamond rings is believed to originate in France as far back as the 18th century?

King Louis XIV asked jewelers to design a unique shape of a diamond that is similar to the sultry way his then mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour smiles. This shape of diamond is slender and elongated with ends that are pointed much like the lips.

More and more couples today prefer the marquise diamond engagement ring because of its practicality, it is more affordable than the round or oval cut diamond. If you want to have a less conventional cut diamond, this is the right choice.

The shape of the marquise diamond engagement ring may be deceiving, since it is elongated; it seems larger and heavier than its actual carat size.

Just like the radiant cut diamond engagement ring, the marquise diamond engagement ring is cut in a multifaceted way and appears to have a bow-tie effect when light reflects on it. It produces an effect of dancing lights and radiates in the sun. And this characteristic adds for its popularity for engagement rings.

The proportion of the marquise diamond engagement ring varies, but the gem experts and jewelers say that the perfect proportion for this type of ring is that width should be the same length as its height that achieves a more prominent and radiant bow-tie effect.

For practical and aesthetic reasons, instead of having the marquise diamond engagement ring to be a solitaire diamond, you can add other precious gems or stones or have it in bridal set engagement ring. This way you can have the manifestation of having a larger diamond stone intricately designed that looks expensive.

The marquise diamond engagement ring is perfect for any woman, it actually flatters the fingers because of its cut, making the fingers seem elongated and elegant.

Do You Have a Wood Jewelry Box? If Not, Read the Article – You Need One

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Wood jewelry boxes come in many shapes and forms you have a vast selection when it comes to these items and you are sure to find something for just about everyone. This includes kids as well. When considering presents you may want to look into wood jewelry boxes.

We all know someone who can't get enough costume jewelry in her collection. She may gather up vintage jewels or modern arrangements. You know that she has draws filled with these items and she probably can't keep everything organized. Some wood jewelry boxes are large and designed for just such a person.

I love the armoire style wooden jewelry box because it also looks like a furniture item. I have no plans of acquiring one for myself as I do not have enough items to fill it up. But my sister can certainly use one. She has amassed oodles of ornaments so I picked out a big, freestanding wooden jewelry box that can hold all her riches.

I really love this pretty fixture. It came in a cherry stain finish that will go well with all the other furniture in her bedroom. This jewelry box has provisions for everything - a space to hang the necklaces, various slots for rings and earrings. For sure, my sister's stuff will be more orderly and will enable her to fix up for dates and appointments faster.

If you need smaller jewelry boxes, they are available too. I got one for my husband the size of cigar box. This box is specially designed to store men's jewelry pieces in an organized fashion and distinct from mine. We have been sharing a jewelry box before, but we had to change it as it deteriorated quite quickly. This box has a very clean and masculine design and allots several slots for watches. That was what I really appreciated in this design.

My daughter is turning into a teenager very soon. I have decided to give her her first jewelry box. I picked her the musical type that was pure white. This delightful box came in a Victorian design and was lined with attractive red felt. She loves to hear the music that plays every moment she opens the box.

Three of my favorite people have each received wood jewelry boxes from me as gifts. I can attest that each of them loves their present and they wouldn't trade them for the world. No matter who is on your shopping list you may want to consider wood jewelry boxes.

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Diamonds remain to be one of the most sought-after possessions for they represent perfection, beauty, power, and wealth. Among all gemstones, a diamond is considered the most suitable particularly in engagements.

An engagement ring is a piece of jewelry worn with much value. Engagement rings oftentimes lead to a wonderful union between two lives. History affirms that engagement rings came about in 1215 when Pope Innocent III declared an interlude for marriages. In those times, as promise from the man that he would not abandon his woman during the waiting period, a simple metal band was given to the woman.

These bands were later enhanced and accentuated with gemstones and eventually came to be known as engagement rings.

Today, modern technology provides for wide varieties of diamond engagement rings, perfectly cut and ornamented. Yet despite the boom of contemporary designs made of famous brands, many couples still prefer heirloom or antique engagement ring.

An antique diamond engagement ring has its unique charm that cannot be found in mass marketed jewelries. Passed from generation to generation, antique diamond engagement rings bear witness to unconditional, endless loves. It brings ardent hope of lasting bond for the would-be couple.

Any ring over 50 years of existence is an antique. Antique diamond engagement rings are often lavishly designed. They have distinctly varied designs, including Victorian, Edwardian, and Art-Deco, to name a few. It could even be said that no two antique rings are ever the same, as none of them could ever have identical cuts.

Antique rings unlike the new fashioned rings, made out of state of the art technology, are not perfectly cut but this very imperfection adds even more to the ingenuity and uniqueness of each piece.

Though rare, you can still get hold of antique diamond engagement rings if you are clever and patient enough to search for it. Here are some suggestions:

You can first rummage your mothers jewelry box, who knows what prized possession you might find in there. You can go to a certified and trusted jeweler who may guide you in your quest. You can go to a pawnshop or visit an antique/vintage store. You can attend estate sales where you can find estate rings; these are newer rings, not yet antique, but are on their way to becoming so.

And of course, use the internet to get quick access about these timeless masterpieces.

Tips To Clean Your Pearl Jewelry Properly

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Because pearls are often one of an individual's most prized possessions, it is inevitable for people to want to take care of their pearl jewelry, ensuring that it looks its best all the time. Simply by making sure they are constantly kept clean, and by following these few simple tips, you can be sure of prolonging the lifespan of your pearl jewelry. As a result, you will find that you have pearls that are glowing and radiant for long periods of time

One of the most basic methods you can employ to keep your pearl jewelry in the best condition possible is to clean them after you wear them. All you need to do is to take a cloth and soak it in warm soap water, and then proceed to wipe your pearls gently. This is especially important if you have been wearing your pearls for several hours, as dirt and sweat can build up between the pearls

Due to the fact that pearls are organic by nature, it is of utmost importance that you keep them far away from any type of chemicals. At times, the body lotions and cosmetics that one might be using can effectively harm the luster of a pearl, which is why you should always wear your pearls after applying whatever lotions or cosmetics necessary. You should also try as best as possible, to ensure that no build up of chemicals occur between the pearls, as it can harm their brilliance severely.

Once you are done with your pearls, or if you intend to keep them for a long period of time, you should try as best possible, to keep them in a silk or leather pouch. You should never keep them in any sort of plastic or air tight container, as it can cause the pearl to become dull over time.

Also, if you intend to store the pearls for a prolonged period of time, you should keep in mind not to store them with other jewelry or sharp objects. This is very important, as pearls can get scratched very easily, which is why they should always be stored alone, well protected and away from any sharp object.

You should also always ensure that pearls are not exposed to any sort of heat. Instead, you should always keep them in a cool place, where the temperature is constantly around the temperature of a bedroom. At times, people unintentionally leave their pearls near a radiator or television, leaving their pearls exposed to the heat from these electrical appliances. This is of utmost importance, as pearls cannot withstand high temperatures, due to the fact that they were conceived and created in the sea, where the temperature is extremely cool.

Lastly, you should also restring your pearls once a year, or once in two years. This is because pearls that are worn often and consistently, will have their string or nylon cord weaken over a period of time, leaving them vulnerable to any sort of accidental shock it might experience, resulting in breakage.

These are just some of the ways you can keep your pearl jewelry in the best condition possible, and maximize the joy of having pearls that consistently look great and gleam in the light.

Blue topaz jewelry is beautiful and elegant.

Friday, October 10th, 2008

December's birthstone is the Topaz. Since learning topaz is my birthstone, I have become fascinated with the stone. At present, I have quite a large collection of blue topaz jewelry. My favorite is a pair of earrings given to me by my husband on Mother's Day. Although Topaz is fairly cheap, its brilliant shine can compare with precious gemstones.

In the process of collecting blue topaz jewelry I have discovered a few delightful qualities that can be found in a topaz. The birthstone shown here is available in a variety of colors ranging from clear ice blue to a deeper, aquamarine shade. The beautiful array of Topaz hues are perfectly represented by my collection of blue topaz jewelry. Matching anything with these colors could be difficult for you.

The earrings my husband gave me were set with magnificent, icy and clear topaz. A diamond, with a fine cut, would reflect and capture light the same way. It may prove to be quite challenging matching them with another piece. I attempted to coordinate it with a valuable necklace that has a large jewel nestled within two smaller ones. This blue topaz jewelry has deep and rich tones and is not very clear. Being place by the earrings did not show it to it's very best potential.

No matter how much I might have wanted to wear both items, I could not manage to make the combination work. I located different sets in my blue topaz jewelry pile. Matching the earrings with the necklace was difficult. It was difficult since the icy earnings were my favorite.

Being able to pick out precious jewels is a talent. I love the hues and contrast in blue topaz jewelry even though it can be difficult. Expanding my collection would make the challenge easier.
